Coach Dennis asked the Stewartville JV Wrestling Tigers to win the HVL Championship for the 4th year running, and to have more mat men then ever before place. They complied in such a way as to leave their parents and their coaches breathless and on the edge of their seats most of the day.  They won an incredible 4th HVL Junior Varsity Championship and showed everyone what wrestling with heart means. They left Lake City with 5 first places, 2 second places, 2 third places, 1 fourth place, 1 fifth and 1 sixth place. And, of course, they left with that coveted, handsome brass trophy.  From young Eric Nelson, who placed fifth in his first HVL Championship spot & "gave up weight" the whole day,  to senior Troy Koenig, who placed first, wrestling his last ever match for SHS, the Tigers showed the remaining teams what a Stewartville Tiger's roar is all about. Starting the day with their usual style, they went right to the top in scoring. Just to give their fans something to think about, by 1pm they had moved to their lowest spot of the day at 1pm - taking a 5th place spot, with a 45 to 69 1/2 point spread.  By 4:30pm they'd edged out the closest competitor and never gave up the lead. They finished the day with a score of 227 1/2, edging out Pine Island by 20 points, and Byron by 24 1/2. Those fighting Tigers who were edged out of placing wrestled well and made their fans proud, and contributed vital points for the  win.

Second Place Tigers: Derek Fritz, Ryan Priebe  

Third Place Tigers: Jerrod Kuisle, Jeff Smith

Fourth Place Tiger: Lucas Jensen

Fifth Place Tigers: Eric Nelson, James Kellner, Tyler Idso  

Sixth Place Tiger: Nate Lecy

DNP Place: Mike Kellner, Nate Goeldi, Jake Kuisle, Jeremy Hauger, Cody Buchanan   

These boys are all fitting proof of coach Heath Bakken's favorite quote, "Wrestling doesn't build character, it reveals it." ;  and of this writer's favorite quote, " The reality is, there are no losers in the sport of wrestling; there are only those who did not wrestle."
